marAix-en-Provence prosecutor Solange Legras and the Court of Appeal of Aix-en-Provence have admitted that errors undermine the twin court decisions of January 9, 2014 that approved the extradition of Kazakh political opponent and former BTA Bank chairman Mukhtar Ablyazov.

In December 2016 Mukhtar Ablyazov’s extradition was refused, he was released from prison and granted a political refugee status in September 2020. Earlier, a number of his relatives and associates had been given international protection in various European countries. Thus, continuing to campaign for human rights in Kazakhstan and the rights of political refugees amongst them, we consider our mission largely fulfilled.
